About this course
If you are looking to embark on a career as a makeup artist, this course is designed to equip you with the knowledge, practical skills and the industry-required qualification to allow you to work in the media, fashion industry or for yourself.
The primary outcome of the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Make-up Artistry is to prepare you to enter the specific sector of beauty therapy as a make-up artist. All the units in this qualification relate directly to the specific job role of a make-up artist.
During this vocational qualification you will gain practical experience in the skills necessary for a career in beauty and specifically for a career as a make-up artist. You will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety, client care and cosmetic products and equipment. You will learn how to provide a variety of make-up products using different techniques. You will also develop interpersonal skills which are important for communicating effectively with clients.
This qualification is based on National Occupational Standards (NOS) for beauty therapy. It is recognised by the UK's leading professional association, the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) as being fit for purpose for preparing you for a career as a make-up artist. Holders of this qualification are eligible to become a professional member of BABTAC.
To obtain a VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Make-up Artistry, you will need to complete between 9 mandatory units and 1 of the 4 optional units.

During this course you will be assessed through various assessments, multiple choice theory exams, evidence portfolio and workbooks. Also, a 90% attendance is required to pass the course due to the intensity and course length. You will receive personal guidance and tutorials throughout the course by our highly experienced tutors to ensure your goals are met, and you successfully achieving your qualifications.
We will assess all applicants suitability on a case-by-case basis. Entry onto the course may be obtained through previous attainment of a Level 2 qualification in beauty therapy and/or successful completion of an English and Maths Assessment and interview.
All of our Level 3 courses are Government-funded by the Advanced Learner Loan. If you wish to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to fund the course, these are the requirements to join our course:
You must be 19 or over on the first day of your course
NATIONALITY AND RESIDENCY STATUS
Be living in the UK on the first day of your course
Be a UK national or have ‘settled status’ (this means there are no restrictions on how long you can stay)
Have been living in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man for 3 years before starting your course
You may be eligible if you’re an EU national, or a family member of an EU national
You have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme
A refugee, or the family member of one
you’ve been given indefinite leave to remain because you’ve been the victim of domestic violence
you’ve been given indefinite leave to remain as a bereaved partner

This course is delivered at our Canary Wharf Centre with attendance for classes being required one day a week, 10:00am - 5:00pm.
Our expert course tutors will guide you through the course and our centre is equipped with everything you need to be able to complete assignments and undertake independent study, including computers and laptops.
Make-up kits are provided in class for the learner at our Academy. After the 14 day cooling-off period, each student will receive their own kit, which will include a brush set, palette and a spatula.
